Mount Kenya University Founder Simon Gicharu is on the spotlight after employees of REREC, the energy sector state owned company he chairs, accused him of tribalism and ethnic profiling.
According to impeccable sources, two senior employees of Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) are on the verge of losing their jobs after being profiled by Gicharu and CEO Peter Mbugua.
Already, Eng. David Rogoncho has been sent packing.
He was dismissed from his job last month during a board meeting chaired by Gicharu that took place at the agency’s head offices boardroom at Kawi house.
His sacking came soon after unproven accusations were leveled against him.
Gicharu reportedly alleged that Rogoncho was the one who had leaked information to a weekly publication which detailed the massive corruption taking place at the parastatal.
The next on the chopping board is Dr Rose Mkalama the company secretary.
Mkalama who has only survived thus far because she is sister to cabinet secretary for foreign affairs Monica Juma.
Both Eng. Rogoncho and Dr. Mkalama have not had a good working relationship with the chairman and CEO. Two years ago the agency’s board suspended Dr. Rose Mkalama (she was reinstated later), Wilfred Oduor and Elizabeth Onoka then human resources manager.
Both Oduor and Onoka never made it back.
Gicharu and Mbugua reportedly fear that Mkalama is being groomed to take over as CEO.
Our source revealed that Gicharu and Mbugua fear that their corrupt dealings will be exposed if Mkalama takes over.
Most of the corruption scandals facing REREC can be traced to Gicharu and Mbugua.
For example, the procurement of faulty transformers and cables were sanctioned by him when he was in charge of the finance docket during former CEO Nganga Munyu’s tenure.
Mbugua has somehow recruited the wealthy Gicharu into his corrupt dealings
